UT Austin Named Top Producer of Fulbright U.S. Students for 10th Consecutive Year

The University of Texas Austin is proud to be included on the list of U.S. colleges and universities that produced the most 2018-2019 Fulbright U.S. Students. Sixteen students and recent graduates from UT Austin received Fulbright awards, more than any other research institution or public university in Texas.

UT Austin Announced as a Gilman Top Producing Institution, No. 1 in Texas

The University of Texas at Austin has been recognized by the U.S. Department of State as a top producing institution for the Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship Program in academic year 2017-2018. Seventy students from UT Austin received the Gilman Award to fund their study or internship abroad program in 2017-2018, more than any other institution in Texas.

Mexico Center “Puentes” Initiative Ignites Collaboration between UT Austin and Mexico

Mexico scholars at The University of Texas at Austin came together with Mexican colleagues at the inaugural Puentes Summit on Security and Governance, Feb. 11 and 12. Puentes is a new yearly summit to foster collaboration between UT Austin scholars and their Mexican counterparts, who will gather to address problems relevant to Mexico and the United States.

For international relations junior Ethan Jewell, his first experience abroad put him on a new path and paved the way for more international opportunities – including five study abroad programs, transformational internships, critical language skills and a goal of joining the U.S. Department of State.

This UT Alumna Is on Her Way to Advance Education in Egypt

Moving to a new country for the first time can leave international students feeling out of place. But after four years at UT, alumna Diana Ayoub learned to “make the most out of being lost.” Originally from Egypt, Ayoub was a recipient of the African Leadership Bridge Scholarship Program which offers financial support to students from Africa for their studies at U.S. colleges. Now a consultant at Deloitte, she has a bold vision for education in her home country.

Developing Persistence, Achieving Dreams Through UT ESL

Alejandra Hernandez came to UT ESL with the intention of improving her English and plan to return home to Mexico to attend college. Flash forward 6 years: she now holds a degree in industrial engineering from Texas A&M University. She believes her experiences in the ESL program at UT were pivotal in helping her realize that her big goals were not impossible to achieve.

Alumnus Creates Endowed Scholarship to Support International Students
Alumnus Shinichi Iimura
Alumnus Shinichi Iimura believes in the potential of UT’s global impact and is paying it forward to help international students succeed academically. “It is my desire to help international students concentrate on their studies without financial pressure,” Iimura said. During his time at UT, Iimura  benefited from discussions with professors and peers and was able to connect with people on a personal level. He wants future international students to have the same experience.

A Day in the Life: Peace Corps Week 2019

Since its creation in 1961, more than 1,800 graduates of The University of Texas at Austin have served as Peace Corps Volunteers. UT is ranked eighth among the top volunteer-producing large colleges in the country with more than 60 UT alumni serving across the globe.
